Scholarships for Türkiye

Türkiye Bursları is highly competitive. Start planning early.

Türkiye Scholarships

Türkiye Scholarships is the government-funded international scholarship program administered through the Türkiye Scholarships application system. The main full-time program combines university and department placement with tuition, accommodation, health insurance, a monthly stipend, a Turkish-language course and travel support described for the active cycle. - Associate, bachelor’s, master’s and PhD routes may be announced. - Academic and age criteria differ by level. - Health-sciences applicants face a higher published academic threshold. - Selection is competitive. - Applicants must use the official portal. - Benefits and criteria must be checked for the active cycle.

Scholarship routes differ in subject coverage, eligibility, application portal and funding. A scholarship application is separate from a student-visa decision, and selection should never be assumed.

Türkiye Diyanet Foundation scholarships

Türkiye Diyanet Foundation operates separate international scholarship programs in theology education. For higher-education applicants, the relevant routes are the International Theology Undergraduate Program and International Theology Graduate Program. Applications are submitted through DBYS when the relevant cycle is open. - Not a general engineering, medicine or business scholarship - Undergraduate and graduate theology routes have separate criteria - DBYS is separate from the Türkiye Scholarships application system - Coverage, placement and conditions must be checked in the current program guide

Specialist funding limited to Theology via DBYS.

YTB–IsDB Joint Scholarship Program

The YTB–IsDB Joint Scholarship Program may be relevant to eligible applicants from IsDB member countries and Muslim communities when an application cycle is announced. Recent cycles have included associate, bachelor’s, master’s and PhD opportunities in announced fields, with applications made through the Türkiye Scholarships system. - It is not automatically open year-round - Program levels and fields follow the active announcement - Applicants must select the joint-program option in the official system when available - Being from an eligible country does not guarantee selection

Cycle-dependent route requiring selection in the official system.

University tuition awards

Foundation and public universities may publish institution-specific tuition waivers, merit awards or graduate assistantships. These vary widely and may cover only part of tuition. Verify the award on the university’s own domain and distinguish a tuition discount from a funded scholarship.

Varies by institution; typically covers partial tuition.

Short-term Türkiye Scholarships

Success and Research Scholarships serve different applicant groups. The Research Scholarship is intended for eligible researchers and covers the benefit stated for that program; it is not a replacement for a full-degree scholarship. Success Scholarship is aimed at eligible international students already studying in Türkiye.

Targeted programs, not full-degree scholarships.

Student Cities in Türkiye

Türkiye's diverse cities offer different lifestyles, living costs, and opportunities. Choose a location that matches your academic goals and budget.

Student Cities in Türkiye

The cultural and economic bridge between Europe and Asia. Home to many universities, but with higher cost pressure.

Ankara

The capital city and a major academic hub. Known for government institutions and a structured student environment.

Izmir

A coastal city offering a strong academic ecosystem and varied living options.

Bursa

A historic industrial center providing engineering programs and different living costs compared to Istanbul.

Konya

A culturally significant city with a notable academic presence, particularly known for theology.

Kayseri

An Anatolian city with growing universities, offering student living away from coastal tourism centers.

Work Rules for Students

Associate and undergraduate students

Students at associate or undergraduate level may apply for work authorization after completing the first year of study. Their work remains subject to the legal part-time limit and permit conditions.

Master’s and PhD students

The first-year restriction applied to associate and undergraduate students does not apply in the same way to graduate students, but a valid work permit is still required before employment begins.

Employer-supported process

For ordinary employment, the employer normally completes the work-permit process with the Ministry. A residence permit, job offer or university enrolment is not a substitute for approval.

Financial-planning warning

Part-time earnings should be treated as supplementary. Availability, language expectations, permit approval and wages vary, so students should not depend on employment to fund tuition or meet visa-related financial requirements.

Working without valid authorization can expose both the student and employer to administrative and immigration consequences.

Student Support, Health Insurance

Student Residence Permit (e-İkamet)

Address registration and residence permit procedures must be completed accurately through Migration Management.

University International Office

Check with your university regarding enrollment validation and local support.

Professional Recognition

Professional recognition must be checked separately in Türkiye and Bangladesh.

Students must provide health-insurance coverage accepted for their residence-permit circumstances. Coverage, exclusions, provider network and eligibility for public insurance vary, so students should verify the current requirements with Migration Management and their university before purchasing a policy.

Post-Study Opportunities

After graduation, international students may have opportunities to transition into a work permit if they secure eligible employment. However, unlike some Western countries, there is no automatic post-study work visa without a job offer.

No Automatic Visa

You must secure a job to stay and work after studies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Essential information for Bangladeshi students planning to study in Türkiye.

Is TR-YÖS mandatory for every university?
No. International admissions are institution-specific. Many public universities request TR-YÖS, SAT, or their own exams. Foundation universities may accept Bangladeshi high school results directly. Use the selected university's current international-admission page as the controlling source.
Can a student residence permit be used as a work permit?
No. A student residence permit does not, by itself, authorize employment. International students must obtain an appropriate work permit or qualify for a legally recognised exemption before starting work.
When may undergraduate students become eligible to work?
Students at associate or undergraduate level may apply for work authorization after completing the first year of study, subject to legal part-time limits and permit conditions.
Is Türkiye Scholarships the same as TDV?
No. They are separate programs. Türkiye Scholarships cover a broad range of subjects through their own application system. Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) operates separate scholarship programs focused specifically on theology education through DBYS.
Can TDV fund engineering or medicine?
No. TDV is not a general engineering, medicine or business scholarship. It focuses on theology and Islamic studies.
Is YTB–IsDB automatically available every cycle?
No. The YTB–IsDB Joint Scholarship Program is not automatically open year-round. Program levels and fields follow the active announcement.
Does a scholarship guarantee a student visa?
No. A scholarship application is separate from a student-visa decision, and selection should never be assumed. You must still satisfy the visa requirements of the Turkish Embassy.
Is an e-Visa appropriate for degree study?
No. The tourist/business e-Visa portal is not for degree study. You must apply for an official student visa through the Turkish Embassy or the official consular system before travel.
Is an offer letter the same as a student visa?
No. A university Acceptance Letter (Kabul Belgesi) is just admission. You must complete the student-visa process before travel and the university registration after arrival.
Can students fund tuition through part-time work?
Part-time earnings should be treated as supplementary. Students should not depend on employment to fund tuition or meet visa-related financial requirements.
What should students verify before paying a university?
Students should verify the exact tuition, admission requirements, language of instruction, and refund policy directly on the university's official domain.
Does graduation create an automatic post-study work visa?
No. Graduation does not automatically create a work visa. Eligible graduates may investigate the short-term residence route, but that status is not work authorization. To work, the graduate still needs an approved work permit.
