Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Republic of Cyprus fully part of the Schengen Area?
Not yet. Cyprus participates in Schengen cooperation as an EU member, but internal-border controls have not yet been fully abolished by the Council. Its Schengen integration process is ongoing. A Cyprus student residence permit is not equivalent to a Schengen visa and does not grant automatic entry to the Schengen zone. Source: European Commission — Schengen area.
Can I study in Northern Cyprus through AdmissionArena?
No. AdmissionArena works exclusively with CYQAA-accredited institutions in the Republic of Cyprus. The northern part of the island is administered differently and degrees from institutions there may lack broad international recognition. Always verify accreditation via CYQAA (dipae.ac.cy) before applying to any institution in Cyprus.
Is IELTS mandatory for studying in the Republic of Cyprus?
Requirements vary by institution and program. Many universities accept IELTS (typically 5.5–6.0 for undergraduate), TOEFL, or an equivalent proficiency letter. Confirm the requirement for your specific program, as visa authorities may require a recognised test result regardless of institutional flexibility.
How does a Bangladeshi student apply for a student visa/residence permit in Cyprus?
The Republic of Cyprus does not have a resident High Commission in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is covered by the Cyprus High Commission in New Delhi, India. Cyprus also maintains an Honorary Consulate in Dhaka, but the Honorary Consulate does not routinely issue visas. Pre-arrival, students may need an entry permit or visa; a temporary residence permit is a separate, post-arrival process often coordinated through your institution. Confirm the exact current process with the institution and the relevant Mission before making any travel arrangements. Admission and tuition payment alone do not guarantee entry permission.
Are CYQAA and KYSATS the same body?
No. CYQAA (Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education, dipae.ac.cy) handles the quality assurance and accreditation of institutions and programs in the Republic of Cyprus. KYSATS (kysats.ac.cy) handles the recognition of qualifications — it evaluates whether your foreign degree is equivalent to a Cypriot qualification for employment or further study in Cyprus. They serve different functions: CYQAA accredits; KYSATS recognises.
