About the GMAT Focus Edition
The GMAT Focus Edition represents a significant shift from the classic GMAT exam. It streamlines the testing experience into three equally weighted 45-minute sections:
- Quantitative Reasoning: 21 questions measuring mathematical problem-solving.
- Verbal Reasoning: 23 questions measuring reading comprehension and critical reasoning.
- Data Insights: 20 questions measuring data literacy and integrated reasoning.
Each section is scored on a scale of 60 to 90, and the total score is reported on a scale of 205 to 805 (ending in increments of 5 to distinguish it from the classic exam). Because it is a computer-adaptive test, your raw score depends on the difficulty of the questions you answer correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the GMAT Focus Edition score calculated?▼
The total score is derived from your performance in the three sections. While GMAC uses a proprietary adaptive algorithm, our calculator uses an established linear estimation: your total score correlates to the sum of your three section scores, mapping the minimum sum (180) to 205 and the maximum sum (270) to 805.
What is a good GMAT Focus score?▼
Because the scoring scale shifted downward, a 645 on the GMAT Focus Edition is equivalent to a 700 on the classic exam (the 89th percentile). Top-tier MBA programs generally look for scores in the 645+ range, but always check the specific class profiles of your target schools.
