How to Master the 60-Minute Reading Clock
Unlike IELTS Listening, you do not receive 10 minutes of transfer time at the end. Every second counts.
Fast & Accurate Start
Section 1 texts are typically the most straightforward. Aim to bank 2 to 3 extra minutes here so you have a safety margin for complex Section 3 arguments.
Steady Keyword Matching
Section 2 introduces denser technical vocabulary or workplace procedures. Skim headings and question stems first to establish target search zones.
Analytical & Discursive
Section 3 features nuanced academic argumentation and complex inference questions. Leave 3 minutes at the end to confirm all answers are complete.
Exam Preparation Guidelines
1How much time do I get for the IELTS Reading practice test?
The test lasts exactly 60 minutes. The countdown timer runs continuously from 60:00 to 00:00. In official IELTS testing, candidates do NOT receive extra transfer time at the end of the Reading module, so all answers must be recorded before time expires.
2How should I allocate my 60 minutes across the three sections?
A proven exam time management strategy is 17 minutes for Section 1, 20 minutes for Section 2, and 20 minutes for Section 3, reserving the final 3 minutes to verify difficult items and ensure no questions were left blank.
3How is my Reading band score calculated after submission?
Your raw score (total correct answers out of 40) is immediately converted into an approximate practice band score using published Academic or General Training conversion guidance. A raw score of 30 in Academic yields Band 7.0, whereas General Training requires 34 correct answers for Band 7.0.
4Can I review my mistakes and see the passage evidence?
Yes. Immediately upon completing the test, you receive a detailed score report with section-by-section accuracy, a question-type diagnostic, and an interactive Answer Review that highlights the exact paragraph evidence and explains distractor rationales.
5Are my answers stored privately or shared?
All test activity is processed securely. Answers are scored deterministically by AdmissionArena without third-party AI models. Your practice statistics are preserved locally in your browser storage (Reading Passport) without requiring account creation or transmitting personal data.
