How WES & NACES Credential Evaluations Work
When applying to universities in the United States and Canada, international academic credentials cannot always be evaluated at face value due to differing grading scales, pass marks, and degree durations. Credential evaluators such as World Education Services (WES), ECE, and SpanTran convert your coursework into standard US Semester Credit Hours and Quality Points on a 4.0 scale.

Evaluates every completed subject, assigns US semester credits, and converts each mark into a US letter grade (A, B, C, D, F) with weighted quality points. Required for graduate school admissions.
Quality Points Weighting
A 4-credit course has double the impact on your final WES GPA compared to a 2-credit course. Quality points are computed as US Grade Points × Credits.
Verified Transcripts
Official evaluations require transcripts sent directly from your university registrar in sealed stamped envelopes or via electronic registrar integrations (e.g. Digitary, TrueCopy).
WES Quality Points Formula & Worked Example
To calculate your cumulative WES GPA manually, convert each course grade to its US grade point equivalent, multiply by credit hours to obtain Quality Points, sum the points, and divide by total credit hours.
